You bought the latest film emulation. Or rather your colorist did. And so did everyone else. So your films and videos look just like everyone else's. Those film emulations are imitating a three-dye Kodak and Fuji process. The dyes are tainted with unwanted spectral absorptions, and crosstalk contaminates the colors, making them dull and muddled together.

But this is the original gold standard of cinema, right?

Kodak monopack dye coupler film became conventional cinema color because it was cheap and easy. Before it was Technicolor. Oh, right, those old movies that look so faded and cheap? Wrong. What you see with movies shot in Technicolor available for streaming are actually either scanned Kodak reprints or digital emulations. True Technicolor printed projections are rare.

So what is Technicolor? 

 

It was a process of recording three strips of film and then soaking that film in color dye. The process resulted in images that were dripping with color. Sounds awful? Yes, if you're used to broken digital saturation tools. This color resembled a painting, not a broken TV. Technicolor had cleaner separation between the red, green, and blue primaries and the complementary dyes. This resulted in color that was fuller and well-defined, increasing the perception of greater colorfulness without needing to blast the saturation knob to 3,000.

So what is Heartcolor? 

​

Heartcolor goes beyond digital emulation of Technicolor. It takes the good things and combines them with digital perfections. It emulates the analog color and photochemical contrast while preserving clean neutrals and pure dyes. And it expands the number of primaries and dyes from three to twelve, allowing for superior color distinctness and separation. It has a red dye, a purple dye, and an orange dye. And it applies to digital cinema footage, which has improved dynamic range and low light capabilities.

How is this supposed to help me?

Everyone else is emulating Kodak. A tiny few are emulating Technicolor. But twelve dye Heartcolor? Who has even thought to do that? Get on board fast before they do. Hire me as your colorist before my schedule fills up. I don't sell the look separately.
